Raise the Living Wage at LAX: Member Resources

RAISE THE LIVING WAGE CAMPAIGN: MEMBER RESOURCES

Get your coworkers involved in the fight to raise the Living Wage for LAX workers to $30/hour!

LAX and Los Angeles are thriving. Every year, LAX generates $126 billion in business revenues for Southern California. Even before the pandemic has ended, there has been a rapid economic recovery as airlines record historic revenues and benefit from congressional bailouts. Raising the living wage for airport workers is a way to ensure that working people benefit from the recovery as well. This economic boom will continue, as Los Angeles will host global events such as the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics. The members of the Los Angeles City Council are uniquely positioned to showcase to the world that our city cares about black and brown workers who power our economy.

We need every LAX worker — every USWW member — to get involved in the fight to raise the Living Wage to $30/hour! Together, we can raise the Living Wage!

Why are your coworkers in the fight to raise the Living Wage?

Monaye: “We deserve this raise because we do the hard work to make the airport function.”

Lashantae: This is the time for everyone to stand up and fight!

Kevin: With all the investments coming because of the Olympics, a reminder to the City’s leaders that without us IT DOESN’T HAPPEN!

TALKING POINTS

  • Airport workers need a raise. We need it now. It took a big fight for us and our union to pass a living wage, but by the time we passed it, it was too low.
  • After the pandemic and years of rising costs of living, we need to come together and demand the city council act to raise the Living Wage for
LAX workers to $30 an hour.
  • In order for our city to thrive we must invest in lifting the quality of life of all Angelenos.
  • The living wage for airport workers must be raised to $30 an hour.
  • The cost of living in Los Angeles continues to go up. Airlines and corporations got massive bailouts, but workers, particularly Black, Brown, and Indigenous people didn’t. We’re trying to make ends meet, cutting dollars here, cutting back on medications, while airlines report record revenues.
    • [SHARE STORY ABOUT RISING COST OF LIVING]
  • The airline industry is roaring back – we know this because we’re working harder than ever.
  • Staffing levels haven’t returned to pre-pandemic levels so we have to work harder and longer, while earning a wage that barely makes ends meet.
  • With this raise, it would help me breathe a little easier when the rent is due. I could take my kid out for ice cream a little more often. This raise won’t force me to ration my medications every month.
    • [SHARE STORY ABOUT HOUSING AFFORDABILITY / MAKING ENDS MEET]
  • We make LAX function. LAX doesn’t run without our labor. So I’m asking you to join me in the fight to raise the living wage to $30 an hour
