Every year, thousands of working families leave money on the table simply because filing taxes is complicated, expensive, or intimidating. To help address this barrier, Building Skills Partnership (BSP) offers a free tax assistance program known as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)—a valuable resource for SEIU-USWW members.
What services does BSP’s VITA program provide?
- Free federal and state tax return preparation and filing
- Free electronic tax filing to ensure returns are submitted safely and on time
- ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) applications and renewals, when applicable
- Assistance with setting up tax payment plans for individuals and families who may owe taxes
- Education on how to maximize refunds and about important credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC)
- Support with updating W-4 and other other withholding forms to avoid unexpected tax bills
Who can use this service?
The VITA program offered through BSP is completely free to SEIU-USWW members and their families. Immigration status does not automatically disqualify someone, and assistance with ITINs helps ensure broader access.
