Airport workers, union members, and community allies held a “Keep ICE Out of SFO” rally and car caravan on No Kings Day to oppose the expansion of ICE activity in airports and defend the dignity and safety of workers, immigrant communities, and travelers.
ICE is expanding its presence at airports across the country, with agents deployed to multiple locations during the ongoing TSA staffing crisis. While no Bay Area airports are currently on that list, workers say recent aggressive enforcement activity at SFO signals a potential escalation and are calling on local leaders not to look away.
Michael, a USWW member who works security for Covenant Aviation at SFO, said, “We’re trying to make sure everyone is getting on their flight safely. It’s more of a hindrance to have ICE at our worksites than a safety measure.”
The airline industry helped create this crisis. Airlines backed the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which handed ICE $75 billion to expand detention and deportation. They did that while the immigrant workers who keep their flights moving continue to be paid poverty wages. Airlines profit from immigrant labor. They do not get to stay silent while that same workforce is terrorized.
Airport workers make SFO fly. They deserve dignity. Not exploitation. Not deportation. Not fear.
