Magali, a Sacramento Janitor, on Raising Her Kids on Poverty Wages

Janitorial contractors across California are exploiting their workers. Despite a very strong commercial real estate market and a booming tech economy,  janitors are paid poverty wages. In this industry abuse is widespread. Janitors are victims of wage theft and sexual assault in the work place. We need to stand up and say ¡Ya Basta!

This fight is just beginning. 52% of contracted out janitors in California live below 200% of the federal poverty level. Over 32% of janitors are paid less than minimum wage and over 80% aren’t paid overtime when they work over 40 hours a week.

Janitorial contractors are turning a blind eye to this violence and poverty in the name of profits. We are asking the public to stand with us and tell these contractors that enough is enough. ¡Ya Basta!
